Have you ever seen a prison with flowerbeds, playgrounds, neat lawns and buildings designed by famous architects? If No, check out the in-famous Dutch prison. It looks more like a recreation center than a prison. Interestingly, they may close this prison due to the decrease in crime rate in the country and to somehow save this beautiful building, they might be inviting foreign criminals into them. Last year it was 500 Belgian villains.

Great idea! Let’s make prisons so nice that people have no incentive to avoid them. Without negative repercussions, people have no incentive not to break the law.
If anything, we should make prisons harsher — more concrete and iron, cheaper to maintain, and safer for security.

In some parts of the world, a country actually believes in it’s people and attempts to rehabilitate them, instead of throwing them into a spiral of learning to become better criminals. it is a strange idea, but crime rates always seem to make sense of it.

This is what happens when your country isnt run by the best politicians money can buy. They look at facts and empirical data vs. minimum sentences, feelings and campaign contributions. So prisons become a place for rehab vs a criminal training camp.

I’m a criminology student from the Netherlands and I can tell you: it does not work. As Great Idea said, people have no incentive not to commit crimes. In fact, we are Europe’s drug port today because all the foreign criminals like to work in our country because they know we have low sentences and prisons like hotels. This is socialism in its purest form. Please Americans, do not copy.
